Operating systems

An operating system is a software interface between the hardware and the user. There are three characteristics of good system security: identity and authentication; access control; and audit and accountability. This security can be applied in two stages, during design of the system and by configuring the system (a process also known as hardening). Securing any system is an ongoing commitment and should form part of routine maintenance. The following documents have been issued to assist in securing systems.
