Security planning

The threat from terrorism is real and serious and you need to consider security planning. If you think your organisation might be vulnerable or affected by a terrorist attack, you should carry out an impact assessment and apply appropriate protective security measures. This section of the website takes you through the process of how to prepare and what to do in the aftermath of an attack.

Why security planning is important

Reasons why you should plan to minimise the impact of potential terrorist attacks include business continuity, reputation and legal obligations.

Risk assessment

A risk assessment will help you decide on the threats you might be facing and their likelihood so you can apply appropriate protective security measures to reduce your vulnerabilities.

Creating a security plan

Your Security Co-ordinator must be involved in planning and managing your building's security arrangements, starting with the security plan.

Handling bomb threats

All staff who could receive a bomb threat should have training and easy access to clear instructions about how to handle the situation.

Search planning

Your staff need to be familiar with their premises so they can identify anything that is out of place.

Mail and deliveries

All staff who recieve mail or other deliveries should be aware of possible indicators that an item may be of concern, as well as how to act upon discovery of a suspicious delivered item.

Evacuation planning

You may need to evacuate your building and it is important to determine where the safest place might be.

Business continuity planning

Effective business continuity planning is critical to ensuring the essential functions of your business can carry on.
